Teenaa koutou and welcome to the Hakihea-December edition of Waikato Regional Theatre Construction Update, the last issue for 2023.

It has been a big year for the Theatre construction – as you can see below, the site has gone from being a large hole in the ground to the true foundations and bones of a world-class venue.

Progress on site

Highlights from November 2023.

Key activities last month include the following.

  • Continued erection of structural steel, including vertical posts you can see from Victoria St.

  • Pouring of the concrete over some of the next level of ComFlor.

  • Installation of the first pre-cast panels - the exterior of the Theatre you’ll see from Embassy Park.

  • Erection of more shearwalls.

  • Arrival of pre-cast stairs.

     

Significant events coming up

The following progress is expected to occur in December - it’s a shorter month for the site team, who will be away on a well-earned break from 22 December until 8 January 2024.

  • Laying of the more of the B1 ComFlor.

  • Erection of more of the structural steel that makes up the superstructure.

  • Installation of the pre-cast stairs.

Overall Programme

Completion of building construction is set for the fourth quarter of 2024, which will be followed by the kitting out and set up of the venue operation, with the Theatre expected to open in early 2025.

  • Foundations                       Largely Completed

  • Structure                             Commenced, due for completion June 2024
