Teenaa koutou and welcome to the Haratua - May 2023 edition of Waikato Regional Theatre Construction Update.

April had a very similar feel to March, with excavation work continuing, the ongoing installation of steel reinforcing and the pouring of concrete.

Of note, the erection of structural steel on the Sapper Moore Jones-Victoria Street corner has become more visible, the first external sign of the rebuilding of the heritage Hamilton Hotel.

Progress on site

Highlights from April.

The continuation and installation of:

  • excavation activities

  • further sections of the shear walls

  • a large amount of reinforcing steel

  • foundation slabs.

Significant events coming up

The following progress is expected to occur in May:

  • first stages of the installation of the composite floor

  • completion of under-slab drainage pipes

  • back-fill activities.

Given the substantial size of the structure and this project, the next few months will be very similar to the above in nature, with the ongoing installation of structural steel and pouring of concrete featuring.

Overall Programme

Completion of the building is now set for the fourth quarter of 2024.

The project’s construction timeline is otherwise currently under review and a new Programme will be issue in due course.
