Teenaa koutou and welcome to the Hoongongoi-July 2023 edition of the Waikato Regional Theatre Construction Update.

Progress on site

Highlights from Pipiri-June 2023.

The team continue to make terrific progress. As mentioned in previous updates, activities during this phase are substantially similar from one month to the next.

These include:

  • steel reinforcing for the raft slabs

  • fixing cracks to strengthen the former Hamilton Hotel façade

  • installation of the composite floor.

June saw the installation of the first composite floor, as well as the excavation and reinforcing of the orchestra pit. Some of the larger plant, such as the chillers, are also now on site.

Significant events coming up

The following progress is expected to occur in Hoongongoi-July:

  • installation of the further composite floor levels

  • continuing installation of structural steel

  • backfill activities

  • shear wall and raft slab activities.

Overall Programme

Completion of the building is now set for the fourth quarter of 2024, which will be followed by the kitting out and set up of the venue operation, with the Theatre expected to open in early 2025.

The project’s construction timeline is otherwise currently under review and a new Programme will be issue in due course.
