Teenaa koutou and welcome to the Christmas-Kirihimete edition of the Waikato Regional Theatre Construction Update.
This one is being sent instead of a January-Kohitātea issue, as we wanted to give you a pre-shut-down wrap-up. The next Update will be on Tuesday 7 February, as the first Monday of February-Hui‑tanguru is Waitangi Day.
The site will be closed from Friday 23 December, with the first teams returning on Monday 9 January 2023 and activity then building back up again over the following weeks.
You’ll see both tower cranes are now gracing the Kirikiriroa skyline, a significant milestone that sets the project up well for progress in 2023.
Progress on site
Highlights from December to date 2022 include the following.
The completion of:
erection of the two tower cranes
installation of the transformer in Sapper Moore-Jones Place
installation of the wastewater and stormwater connections in Sapper Moore-Jones Place.
The commencement or continuation of:
ground improvements below heritage basement facade
excavation activities - Stage 2
construction of the raft slab foundations
façade column strengthening.
Significant events coming up
The following progress is expected to occur in early 2023:
concrete pour to the raft slab foundations
underslab drainage to existing heritage façade
completion of excavation - Stage 2.

Site set-up August – October 2021
Demolition November 2021 – September 2022
Earthworks June – October 2022
Foundations October 2022 – January 2023
Structure November 2022 – March 2023
Envelope January – April 2023
Fit-out March 2023 – May 2024
Completion June 2024.
