Teenaa koutou and welcome to the Hui-tanguru February 2024 edition of the Waikato Regional Theatre Construction Update.

The Fosters team were back on site on 8 January and have been working at pace in this beautiful weather. This is going to be the ‘big reveal’ year for this project, as those walking by on Victoria St or viewing the site across the river will really see the Theatre arise and take shape.

Progress on site

Highlights from Kohitātea January.

Key activities over the last month included the following.

  • Laying and pouring of the floor of the Atrium space, which will run between the Theatre and the commercial spaces on Victoria Street.

  • Commencing the erection of the structural steel that will form the circle and hold the balconies in the auditorium.

  • Laying and pouring of the stage floor.

  • Installation of more of the external wall panels - they’re looking great.

  • Erection of more of the shear walls.

  • Laying out of the commercial space in the northern corner of the site.

Significant events coming up

The following progress is expected to occur in Hui-tanguru February.

  • Erection of more structural steel to create the structure of the auditorium.

  • Installation of the permanent support structures for the heritage façade and commencement of the blockwork within the façade.

  • Removal of the temporary structure supporting the façade, following the above.

  • Laying of the floor of the northern corner commercial space.
